Bethlehem Township, PA – John Merhottein has officially announced his candidacy for the seat of Bethlehem Township Commissioner, 4th Ward for the 2018 - 2022 term.

Merhottein, who possesses a vision of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility states, “I’m not a politician – I am a husband and proud father of a 4-year-old intent on living in this great community for years to come. To keep it great, and help improve upon the shortcomings, I have decided to declare my candidacy for 4th Ward Commissioner in 2017.” Set on winning the primary slated for May 16, 2017,  he is currently working hard on the campaign trail.  He has developed a campaign website ( to share his platform and ideas on many specific issues facing Bethlehem Township.

John is a Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and an elected Northampton County Republican Committee member.

Merhottein’s campaign will focus on the following issues important to Bethlehem Township residents including but not limited to: fiscal conservatism, government transparency, the inclusion of public input on all matters, expenses cut when and where possible, as well as insisting the Bethlehem Area Library increase services to the township.

In preparation for his run, Merhottein has been a faithful attendee at bi-weekly Commissioner’s meetings and is up to speed on township issues like stormwater, traffic, taxes, and development.  He also actively attends budget hearings and Bethlehem Area Library Board meetings.

He found that he had a passion for spreading this information to community members, and is ready to take up the torch himself heading into 2018.
